Higgs is a live performing and recording artist here to make you feel something.
His original songs are like little fragments of his life, sometimes posing questions and other times full of purpose and meaning - but always thoughtful and real. Higgs' music defies any single genre, drawing on elements of rap, pop, island, and R&B + singer/songwriter vibes to create a sound wholly his own.
His low-key approach creates an open and authentic atmosphere, inviting listeners
to connect with him at a basic human level.
As a kid Higgs (full name Ryan Patrick Higgins) was infatuated with rhythm. He picked up his first set of drumsticks while still in middle school, playing in his parent's kitchen floor on a spread of pots and pans to songs on the radio. Since then he knew music was what he wanted to do with his life, and he honed his skill as a drummer and percussionist, playing in various bands and on studio projects around Hawaii island. These days he favors a stringed instrument, but a beat and interesting rhythms are a mainstay in his tunes, while his songwriting has become his way of expressing his life and the world around him.
In 2009 he began carving out a career as a solo artist, writing under his high school nickname. Over the past 5 years his music has taken him around his home state of Hawaii, The Pacific Northwest, Los Angeles, and back home to The Big Island where he now resides. His debut EP, The Letdown, was recorded in 2016. He has since released 4 singles, the latest of which, No Plans, took first place in the Hawaii songwriter's competition in 2018. He continues to collaborate with other Hawaii writers and artists, and has garnered music placements on T.V. Shows The Flash and others. He featured most recently on fellow Hawaii artist Kimberly June's single Grateful For You
You can catch him at various venues and events around the Big Island playing his new songs both solo and with his band/side project, Kingside. His first full-length album is scheduled to release Fall 2019.
